You can also click on the image at left to view a detailed diagram describing the Electrical Resistance Heating process.

Electrical resistance heating is an in situ, polyphase electrical heating technology that uses commonly available electricity and applies it into the ground through electrodes. These electrodes can be installed either vertically to any depth or horizontally underneath buildings, operating facilities, and in the presence of buried utilities. The technology is equally effective in soil and groundwater.

In response to customer feedback TRS has developed this brief explanation of the benefits of Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH) and where it is most effective.

The technology has been commercially deployed on over 45 sites since 1997. The TRS team is directly responsible for over 80% of these deployments. About half of these proejcts were full-scale applications and the other half were equally divided between pilot tests and technology demonstrations. Most of the applications have been underneath buildings for the remediation of chlorinated volatile organic compounds at concentrations indicative of DNAPLs and fuel hydrocarbons as LNAPL. Several deployments have been underneath operating facilities in the presence of operating, buried utilities. The remedial objectives have been met at all of these deployments and two commercial sites have been closed. The price range for full-scale remediation is typically $250K plus $30 and $90 per cubic yard depending on the specific site characteristics. Economies of scale are achieved on sites larger than 10,000 cubic yards of impacted soil.
